Joy-Luck Club Students took a quiz and only Brittany, Dejaih and Illiana did well. We are in negotiations as to what will happen next. Unacceptable. Rec'd yesterday's assignment from Art.
Mockingbird Quiz Students took a quiz and no one did well. Also, this group is in negotiations as to what will happen next. Rec'd assignment from Jacqueline.
Outsiders: Early group. Read and discussed pages 61-67, finishing chapter 5. Discussed foreshadowing. Quiz tomorrow, Friday 10-29-10. Rec'd yesterday's assignment from Victoria, Emily and Rodrigo. Fabian had already done his.
8th grade meeting: From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. I met with the 8th graders to discuss the decline in performance in many of the students as well as the somewhat apathetic approaches to assignments and projects. Let me be clear: I'm not seeing a decline in progress and attitude in all of the 8th graders, but in quite a few of them. I told them that while I can certainly empathize with their positions in life as 8th graders, I would be remiss in performing my job as a teacher if I allowed them to skate by simply because they didn't care for the book or they were tired. I reminded them that life is comprised of completing a lot of tasks that we don't particularly enjoy. I spoke of the importance of finishing things that we start, and I reassured them that we would definitely be completing projects and reading books throughout the year that they WOULD enjoy.
Holes: Both Holes groups met together this morning. We read chapter 10 and there will be a short comprehension quiz on Friday.
Outsiders Late group: We read pages 61 to 65 together and students read pages 65 to 67 silently. There will be a short quiz tomorrow.
