Ms. T English Tuesday 11-2-10 --- Writing: Compare/Contrast Essays

8th grade- 2 groups of 8th graders met between 8:45 and 10. We read a sample student compare and contrast essay and discussed its strengths and weaknesses. Students were asked to submit topics and Venn diagrams by lunchtime for class participation points. Topics must include something about current novel they are reading: setting, characters, plot elements, anything.

7th grade- The majority of the 7th graders met from 10:00 to 10:40. We read a sample student essay and discussed it. We discussed possible topics for a compare and contrast essay in connection with the novel they are currently reading. The rest of the 7th graders met between 11 and 12. Students were asked to turn in topics by tomorrow.

6th grade- 6th graders designed their own project in response to the student model essay they read. They are writing modernized versions of  The Three Little Pigs, and then comparing and contrasting their version with the original version. A two-part assignment. 6th graders are so cool, what a great group.
